Have you been reading?

Over the past few years, I’ve noticed a shift, not just myself, but most of my friends around me too, where long gone are the days of physical books. While we can never let go of the learned calmness that we feel when reading a book on a rainy afternoon, or in front of a warm fireplace wrapped in a cozy blanket, audiobooks have sneaked in and carved out a special place in our hearts.

I find that I’ll get home from work, wear my awesome Bose headphones, and whip out my latest audiobook. I’ve noticed going through books 10 times as faster, especially if you’re able to still understand at a quicker speed. I’m still evaluating the impacts to how much I’m retaining at these speeds, but hey, we’re humans, we adapt.

If you’d like to try out audiobooks, Audible provides a great service for just that. I have a special offer for my visitors to try it out – Try Audible and Get Two Free Audiobooks – nothing beats listening to our former First Lady Michelle Obama tell her inspiring story.

Try it for yourself and share any good reads…erm, listens that you come across. I’ve recently been swept away by the Patternmaster: The Patternist Series by Octavia E. Butler – book 2!

Best Headphones Ever

If you’re like me, you probably don’t like displays of wealth, so I’ll probably go for very muted fashion or buys, tech included. If you’re like me also, you’d know that comfort trumps pretty much everything, so on a whim I decided to buy these great Bose Queitcomfort 35 II headphones, and I’m SOLD! Expensive, yes, but worth every penny. I was on a flight recently and it made ALL the difference between feeling like my ears will pop, to another fun roadtrip without all the noise. You sleep like a baby, and I’d want to share that with my fellow humans here!

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been a long time user and lover of my Beats, but I have a new love. I would definitely recommend them if you’re looking for something wireless and cheaper.

Check out other great finds in the Latest Hottest Tech! Let me know what your faves are.

Blockchain! Ahh What is This?

We’ve all heard the name, BLOCKCHAIN, sounds so cool right? Well, it’s the new buzzword and all corporations are busy trying to find ways to jump on the ship that’s definitely here to stay. I personally believe it will revolutionalize the internet as we know it. So what is blockchain? I took this definition from here:

By allowing digital information to be distributed but not copied, blockchain technology created the backbone of a new type of internet. Originally devised for the digital currencyBitcoin,  (Buy Bitcoin) the tech community is now finding other potential uses for the technology.

It’s essentially a digital “book” that records transactions chronologically and publicly and allows parties to validate it’s integrity. One big application has been cryptocurrency, and if you had got in early, you’d have basked in the success of recent crazy highs of close to $19,000 for Bitcoin.

I recently read an interesting article on the various Web dots. You can read it here. Long story short, Web 3.0 will allow users to take back control of their information and finally decentralize the monopoly of our data that the likes of Google and Facebook have had over the last 10 years. Users may also have the ability to sell their data, and even be nitpicky about it since there’s fine-grained permissioning. I’m also dropping this link to an article showing application in the banking industry in Japan, based on Ripple.

Feeling very optimistic about blockchain and will be sharing my ideas on potential implementation in the coming weeks!

Making Money Moves

With tax season right around the corner, we were talking with a bunch of friends regarding the various options available for filing taxes. Personally, I use a good friend of mine, very sharp guy (and African) that can do your taxes from whatever state you may be visiting from. Please visit his website for more info and to support a brother!

Personal tax preparers aside, there are other options for you if you’d rather do things yourself. This applies perfectly if you only have one source of income, and plan on taking the standard deduction. I would recommend shopping around as there are different services all with different cost points. The most popular being H&R Block and Turbo Tax. You should be able to make it to the point of knowing what your refund is then pick the one that maximizes your refund. It’s crazy they vary so much depending on which service you use. I cannot wait for the day that tax returns and filing will be a thing of the past, maybe powered by blockchain? Be on the lookout for that post on all the ways blockchain will change the way our world works!

Where to Start?!

It’s been ages, literally! I know they say time is relative, but nothing comes close to what we have all experiences in the United States within the last year. We lost Bernie (well, I did, not everyone shared my strong sentiments for him), and in his place gained a child-man-grandpa rolled into one for president.

I know it’s been a while, but life has just been ridiculous crazy busy for me, I apologize for letting it get in the way of our relationship! I can only hope we’re going strong. I’ve got a LOT in store for you, so please stay tuned in. Lot’s of new music, venues, outlets to connect etc…a lot has changed in the time I was away, and I can only hope to play catch-up and get us all on the same place.

Stay tuned!

There Are Men

Read this a while back and thought i’d share, this goes for the ladies too 🙂

There are men out there who will respond to your text messages. Men who will initiate conversations because they simply can’t wait to see what you’ll say next. There are men who will never be too busy or too preoccupied to wish you good morning, regardless if you’re a country or a block away. Men who remember to call when they say they will – because they want to – and those who surprise you with their curiosity about your sometimes monotonous days. There are men who aim to be the last person you talk to before you sleep and the first name you see on your screen when you rise. Men who show up on time – or even early – men who are genuinely excited to see you.

There are men who want to go on dates. Real dates. Men who want to take you out to their favorite…
